Travelers spend $28.9 billion, creating nearly 197,500 jobs. Tourism payroll increased 19 percent to $7.7 billion. As a result of visitor spending, state and local governments saw rebounds in tax revenues to $2.3 billion. As a result of travelers’ contributions to state and local tax revenue, North Carolina households averaged about $580 in yearly savings. The positive impact of travel and tourism continues to grow while other sectors of the state’s economy are in decline or remain sluggish.
